Daily Dig – Gang Starr

R.I.P Guru July 17, 1966 – April 19, 2010

On Monday, April 19, hip hop sadly lost legendary emcee Guru (Gang Starr) to cancer. Since the press release of his death, there have been controversial allegations stating he wrote a letter on his death bed of which antagonizes close friends, while his family says Guru never recovered from the coma he was in. Whatever the case may be, one thing is for sure: Guru pioneered the bridge between hip hop and jazz and molded a style that lives on through artists today. He should never be forgotten.

  1. I gotta give a definite shot out to GURU. i really was fond of the whole jazzmataz ? project. it was really unique when i was growing up. lately i been hearing alot of cats showin love to Guru. Which is cool. its obvious its not alot of love for all the living Mc’s. but best believe when i go. if i leave with just a portion of respect by the industry that Guru left with. that will be cool with me.
